Together. Companionship.

Together. Companionship.

Ordinary words right? We use them in our day to day life, but their significance is often lost to us. Power of these words is realized in that moment when we are unknowingly or knowingly, searching a shoulder to lean on, a nonjudgmental ear to hear us out and a living soul to walk side by. Every one of us experience this wonderful moment at least once in our lifetime.

I had my first with this moment, way long back in 2005, when I was doing my post-graduation in a different city, away from home. But before I start my narration, let me build up the setting for it. So we had this set of five-step stairs at our college entrance. My confused status always used to drag me towards these stairs where I used to just sit and indulge in mind wandering. First time staying away from home, new people, placements, worry about the future and job and yes, never-ending syllabus! All these took their toll and I was feeling over-whelmed.

span style="font-family: inherit;">As a routine, I went and sat at my sanctuary. Suddenly, I heard somebody remarking about programming class which has ended like half an hour ago. The remark was hilarious and identifiable at the same time. It stopped my mind wandering and made me notice this intruder. It was Arti. Friend of mine from the class. I was offered a share of veg patty and cup of tea, which like any hosteler, I took without any second thoughts. Though I must add here, that this was the first and the only time I was given a share from precious veg patty by Arti. Conversation was struck over veg patty and cup of tea, thoughts were exchanged, views were discussed, syllabus was cursed and out pour was patiently listened to. Thus these stairs became the place where my friend Arti turned into my best friend for life, and where many cups of tea were finished. Over the period of nine years, our friendship has seen almost every color. From the time when I slapped her for being stupid to the time when she snatched my phone and deleted all contacts to stop me from talking to an idiot crush. This friendship is a beautiful and most cherished part of busy life today. Specially, when we both have become super busy in our respective lives, have hectic IT jobs and have entered the domestic arena by getting married. Delhi Haat has replaced college stairs as we both belong to Delhi and came back here after completing studies. Fortunately, we both ended up getting jobs here in NCR.

So the topic of our conversations might change, setting might change, life might change but our tea cup remains the same and with that, our moment remains the same. The power of being #together.

Healthy Child is a Happy Child; leading to a Happy Home.

Chances are you may have kids running around the house and there may be days when you may think to yourself that if you are at home or a wild circus. But here's the thing, try to be at home when the kid is sick or not at home and you will miss that circus and the energy, i bet. This is what i called "the power of a healthy child".

I have a niece and when she is at home, she keeps everybody on their toes with her continuous mischief's and surprisingly i feel so content and happy amongst the chaos and clutter. The basic idea is keep the kids happy and they will make the home happier. As adults, we need to ensure the child is happy and healthy.

Full Disclosure: They are children they will make  mistakes, never forget that, rather try to be a living example rather than preaching, hug them more, converse with them on every topic, appreciate them on their achievement and make that 'connect'.  Yes, raising a child can be stressful but the idea is to enjoy the stress. Make the child a part of the home by letting her/him take part in the activities.

Having said that; "A healthy child is a happy child and a happy child is the biggest contributing factors to a happy home" so check and double check before buying furniture, cleaning agents, maintenance systems, drinking water and  other household material. Ensure the house has proper ventilation system and proper sunlight comes in the right amount.

These are all controllable factors, what if the child pick up bacteria while eating or drinking outside, for that the child should have strong immune system to fight these bacteria and viruses. I would suggest giving the  Ayurvedic Dabur Chyawanprash (https://www.liveveda.com/daburchyawanprash/) daily for a robust immune system. It also helps in fighting against seasonal illness and enhances learning power in children.

Apart from that, try to make the child familiar with fruits and vegetables and less with different varieties of junk food available in the market. Encourage them to take up sports professionally (not limited to cricket) and outdoor games in school.

Keep the focus on fun! You can make them do anything, cleaning as well, if you can make it fun and interesting. Organize a competition for best cleanliness for example and they will enjoy while doing the most boring work. Be a role model, don't just preach lead the way, take them along while going for a morning walk or cycling. Participate with them in their school co curricula activities and motivate them to participate as much as possible.

And remember, "Your happiness is a reflection of your health". ~ Anonymous.

Keeping it real, yet again

Dear Readers,

Last Friday, i got a wonderful opportunity to attend the exclusive screening of Mr. Anurag Basu's film "Sunsilk Real FM", despite the fact and knowing he himself won't be coming for the screening, i was still thrilled to attend as it was an 'exclusive' event for bloggers. Although i am not qualified enough to judge or review a movie, but as promised to my fellow bloggers, i will give it a try.

Disclaimer:
I am really fond of Mr. Basu, because i love the kind of  realistic movies he makes, which people can easily connect to and Sunsilk 97.5 Real FM is no exception. The name may also been chosen keeping that in mind i guess.

Here it goes:-

The film is about 3 friends who join hands to help one of the friend in need. Rhea, the protagonist, is the typical rich  girl who is well provided off, her father is the owner of a radio station and her brother is studying in London. Her world was shattered, when she realizes that her father had a heart attack and the radio station is on brink of closing down. After crying for few seconds, she stood up and decided to save the radio station. With that attitude, i think she has already won half the battle.

Her 2 friends, despite having no idea what to do agreed to help her facing challenges like their family approvals and the station technicalities. After initial set backs, came the epiphany "Why not play 28 songs of each state as a tribute on Independence day".  Universal fact - Music brings people together, and its the best way to reach out.

The film touches your heart with the concept of Unity in diversity. We may be 28, but we are still one -  "The united states of India". So the people of Manipur are as important to us as the people of  Maharashtra or any other state for that matter. The one line i loved the most was "Mumbai: yaha pura India basta hain".

The movie talks about women safety and middle class issues too where a simple middle class girl is forced to suppress her dreams because her father doesn't approve them.

The film also teaches us to be creative, rather imitating or impersonating others, to be yourself.

In the end you can achieve anything, if you have the confidence, right attitude and friends by your side. Moral : Bring it on 'life'. If life throws lemons at you, make lemonade from it and ask for watermelons next, obviously for a watermelon juice.

Few things missing in the ending:
Whom did Rhea chooses, her ex or the CA?
They never actually got any real investors?
How can you measure the success of the station based on 1 day of airtime?
Is smoking that one cigarette in office was the cause of the heart attack?

I think, what the director wants to say in the end is "Success doesn't matter, standing up to the challenge is".

Thank you Mr. Basu and Mr Khurana for keeping it real time and again. Keep making these kind of awesome movies.

Thumps up for Sunsilk Real FM.

Unsaid Emotions

Pride is Temporary; Regret is Forever.

Libras are amazing lovers.

  • Because we never forget your birthdays.
  • Because we listen.
  • Because we become your dad when you travel alone.
  • Because we become your mom when you are sick.
  • Because we skip a beat when you get hurt. Sometimes beats.
  • Because we never skip a chance to flirt with you.
  • Because we can’t see you dancing with someone else.
  • Because we want to be your knight in shining armor.
  • Because we and no one else can handle you when you are mad.
  • Because we understand even if it’s not our fault.
  • Because we forgive even when it’s tough to forget.
  • Because we love holding hands.
  • Because we look in your eyes when you talk, and sometimes, at your lips.
  • Because we listen to the heart, even when the head makes more sense.
  • Because we surrender and sacrifice.
  • Because we keep you on top.
  • Because we put this unnecessary pressure on ourselves to please you.
  • Because we crack jokes, incessantly,  some really lame ones too.
  • Because we get tickled inside when we make you giggle.
  • Because we find you in our songs.
  • Because we don’t mind getting distracted when you call at work.
  • Because we find our happiness in you.
  • Because we love you, more than we love ourselves, and we are born self obsessed.

How do i know so much, simple i am a Libran myself :)

This post is dedicated to you.

My chilhood experience with a dreadful smell

I don’t think any house in India was completely isolated from the mouse menace in the 90’s. The time where mice were part our households, a member of the family kinds. With the problem came the solution i.e. Mouse traps and there was a rush to purchase the same. These traps were pretty effective in catching their prey but the big question was what to do after catching them. People use to travel miles and miles to throw them at the far off garbage disposal grounds, but unfortunately that didn’t help mainly because it was a viscous cycle where you will dispose them somewhere and other person too does the same, therefore the mice never lost their numbers they were just getting new homes.

After the debacle, Mortein came up with a fresh idea of poison cakes which can be kept at places where there is a possibility of the mouse. The mouse will eat them, that will choke their lungs and they will run outside for air and eventually die. Great idea, we just have to put the green cake and it will do the rest, but unfortunately it is not full proof, most of the times the rat dies at the hardest to reach corners of the house making life miserable.

This is my story of such incident where a rat died after the poison cake at the most unwanted location – The 'store', where we usually dump everything which is unwanted for now.

And then came the bomb; from where this horrible smell is coming? Mom said and eyes start rolling. Horrible smells are associated with a fart, smelly socks, to the extreme of who didn’t took bath today. After the blame game, teasing, literally checking and after counting out all these possibilities we start checking the room. Searching for these bad odors can be a frustrating task, but with mom’s perseverance everything is achievable.  It was making us crazy, thinking what the heck is stinking so bad and finally we found the dead body (mystery solved) and I was chosen for the rituals of cremating it off to the farthest location possible.

My association with exotic smell is when mother bakes and cooks. The smell just drives you nuts, the temptation is irresistible and you just try your best to grab and stuffed it into your mouth.

How can I forget my other nostalgic associations with smell like the smell of wet mud after the enchanting rains when I would sit for hrs (inhaling as much as possible), gazing outside and penning down random stuff, the smell of a fresh new book, where I keep reading and flipping pages to get the fresh smell experience time and again and last but not the least the smell of a fresh paint which reminds me of my awesome childhood involvements. :)
